Legal cases

Cargo Inspection Service, based in Spain and the USA, Provides scientific and technical advice in legal cases to local and international maritime law firms, maritime lawyers, cargo underwriters and P& I clubs. We carry out critical reviews and analysis of the documentation and evidence collected, applying scientific and technical criteria . We also participate in expert evidence for litigation.

We are able to analyze cargo damage information and reports from a scientific point of view, in order to determine its most probable cause, including temperature and relative humidity deviation, composition of gases in modified atmosphere storage, stowage, ventilation, condensation, wetting with fresh or seawater, mold growth, mycotoxin formation, fruit ripening, diseases and physiological disorders in fruits and vegetables, and their relationship with problems of inherent vice and quality and condition in origin.

In the same way we have developed mathematical models for the prediction of microbiological, chemical and physical stability of foods, and to establish their storage life under the conditions experienced and recorded during storage such as: temperature, relative humidity, composition of gases in modified and controlled atmospheres, among others.

We have extensive experience along with academic and practical training in the investigation of damage to food products and other commodities. We have served as expert witnesses in international courts in cases related to grains in bulk, cocoa in sacks, brewery malt, potatoes, potato seed and other refrigerated cargo. In addition, we have been designated by courts as experts in dozens of cases, to assess the nature, cause and extent of damage during maritime transport of fresh and processed foods, fertilizers and chemicals.
